Dosage
Ultracet, a prescription pain reliever originally developed by Ortho-McNeil, is widely available as generic. So if you are about to buy Ultracet, you may want to check prices for lower-cost generic drug.
The medication
is used to treat moderate to severe pain for a period of five days
or less. The usual prescription dose of Ultracet is two tablets every 4 to 6 hours as
needed for pain relief up to a maximum of 8 tablets per day.
If you have kidney problems, the doctor may reduce the dose to 2
tablets every 12 hours.
Older adults may also receive a low dose.
Your doctor may prescribe more flexible dosing.
Ultracet may be a suitable option for the management of moderate-to-severe migraine headache3. It reduces the severity of pain, photophobia, and phonophobia associated with migraine headache, but does not reduce migraine-associated nausea.
Ultracet versus other prescription drugs
According to the clinical study, Ultracet provides effective rapid analgesia comparable to that of Hydrocodone/Acetaminophen with lower rate of side effects1. In the study the onset of pain relief
was about 34 minutes with 2 Ultracet tablets and 25.4 minutes
with anoter drug.
The results of another study suggest that Ultracet tablets (37.5
mg/325 mg) are as effective as Codeine/APAP capsules (30 mg/300
mg) in the treatment of chronic low back pain and osteoarthritis pain. Codeine/APAP causes higher rate of sleepiness and constipation whereas Ultracet causes more
headache2.
