Tramadol Uses:
Tramadol is an analgesic most commonly used to treat or moderate to severe
prevent pain. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined
by your doctor.
How to Take Tramadol:
Take Tramadol exactly as directed by your doctor. Take each dose with
a full glass of water. Tramadol can be taken with or without food. Do
not take more of this medication than is prescribed for you without doctor's
approval. If the pain is not being controlled, contact your doctor.
Tramadol Side Effects:
The most common side effects are:
- nausea
- vomiting
- sweating
- dizziness
- dry mouth
- rash
- tremor
- headache
More serious adverse effects include:
- confusion
- hallucinations
- increased blood pressure
- hypersensitivity reactions
Risk of seizures. Tramadol may induce seizures even within the
therapeutic dose range. The risk increases in patients with epilepsy or
a recognised risk of seizure or when tramadol is prescribed with drugs
that lower the seizure threshold.
Serotonin syndrome. Serotonin syndrome is most likely to occur
with tramadol in high doses or in combination with other agents which
increase serotonin concentrations in the brain.
Tramadol Addiction, Abuse adnd Dependence:
While tramadol mode of action was initially thought to make its potential
for abuse low, a number of case reports have revealed dependence, abuse
and withdrawal symptoms after long-term treatment.
Tramadol Precautions:
Tramadol may increase the effects of other drugs.Tell your doctor what
prescription and nonprescription drugs you are taking (other pain relievers;
muscle relaxants; antidepressants; anxiety medicines; sleeping pills;
tranquilizers). This medication may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Tramadol
may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Do not drink alcohol while taking Tramadol.
Because this medication may make you dizzy/drowsy, use caution performing
tasks requiring alertness (driving, operating machinery, other hazardous
activities).
Drug Interactions:
The best way for you to avoid harmful interactions is to tell your doctor
what prescription and nonprescription medications you are currently taking
(other pain relievers; muscle relaxants; antidepressants; anxiety medicines;
sleeping pills; vitamins and herbals ). Tramadol may increase the risk
of seizures if you are taking tricyclic antidepressants, an antipsychotic
medication, a narcotic pain reliever, Bupropion (Wellbutrin, Zyban), Cyclobenzaprine
(Flexeril), Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft. Do not take Tramadol without first
talking to your doctor.
Missed Dose:
If you miss a dose of this medication, take it as soon as remembered.
If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume
your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.
