Ofloxacin Detailed Information
Ofloxacin (brand name: Floxin) is a second-generation fluoroquinolone
antibiotic. It is used for the treatment of lower respiratory infections,
skin infections, urinary tract infections (such as prostatitis,
gonorrhea, cervicitis and urethritis), infection of the blood (septicaemia
or blood poisoning). Ofloxacin has broad activity against bacterial
infections and is used in combination with other drugs to treat
tuberculosis.
Ofloxacin is a racemate, or mixture of two different molecules
(enantiomers) that are mirror images of one another.

because of their availability in oral and intravenous formulations

mg every 12 hours for 10 days, for a total daily dose of 800 mg.
- Pneumonia: The usual dose is 400 mg every 12 hours for

- Gonorrhea: The usual dose is 400 mg taken once.
- Sexually Transmitted Infections of the Cervix or Urethra:
The usual dose of Ofloxacin is 300 mg every 12 hours for 7 days,

- Mild to Moderate Skin Infections: The usual dose is 400
mg every 12 hours for 10 days, for a total daily dose of 800 mg

- Complicated Urinary Tract Infections: The usual dose
is 200 mg every 12 hours for 10 days, for a total daily dose of
400 mg.
