Fluconazole (Diflucan) Without Prescription
Diflucan (fluconazole) is broad spectrum antifungal agent. It is used to treat different types of fungal and yeast infections, particularly those caused by Candida or Cryptococcus species of fungi: vaginal thrush (candidiasis), thrush affecting the mouth or throat, systemic candidiasis (urinary tract or other organs), cryptococcal meningitis. Fluconazole is also effective against fungal skin infections caused by dermatophytes, including tinea corporis (ringworm), tinea cruris (jock itch), and tinea pedis (Athlete's foot). Fluconazole (generic Diflucan)
More Information
Diflucan over-the-counter The single-dose Diflucan from Pfizer was a potential candidate to be sold without a prescription. However, a high rate of side effects such as headache and nausea, reduces the likelihood that people will be able to buy Diflucan over-the-counter. Since 2010, fluconazole 150 mg is available over-the-counter under the name CanesOral in Canada. How does Fluconazole work? Fluconazole is generally fungistatic against yeasts. It works by preventing fungi from producing a substance called ergosterol, which is a component of fungal cell membranes. Without ergosterol as part of the cell membrane, the membrane is weakened and damaged, and essential constituents of the fungal cells can leak out. This kills the fungi. The usefulness of fluconazole is restricted by its ineffectiveness against Aspergillus sp and limited activity against Candida krusei and Candida glabrata. It has nearly complete oral bioavailability (>90%). Fluconazole dosage To clear up your candidiasis completely, take the full course of Fluconazole. Keep taking it even if you feel better in a few days. Vaginal yeast (thrush): Throat and mouth candidiasis: Candidiasis of the esophagus (gullet): Cryptococcal meningitis: Fluconazole is not normally used in children but doses of 5 mg/kg/day have been safely prescribed for serious fungal infections. Important note: Diflucan has been linked to rare cases of serious liver damage, including deaths, mostly in persons with serious health problems. |
