How does Condylox work?

Podofilox (also known as Podophyllotoxin) is a biologically active component in podophyllum resin. It suppresses the growth and the ability to invade the tissue of the viral infected cells, thus destroying and inducing necrosis of the warts.

Studies1-2 indicate that when using podofilox, 45-82% people clear up their warts within four to six weeks of application.

How to use

  • Neither the gel nor the solution is used to treat genital warts inside the rectum, vagina, or penis. Podofilox should only be applied to genital warts on the outside (external) skin of the penis and vagina.
  • Gel may be applied on the warts between the rectum and the genitals.
  • Keep Condylox away from the eyes and mucous membranes, such as the inside of the penis, rectum, or vagina. It may cause severe irritation. If you get the medicine in your eyes or on one of these areas, immediately flush the area with water for 15 minutes.
  • Use Condylox according to the prescription label, no more than 3 days a week and no more than 4 cycles.
  • Make sure the treated area is dry before allowing the treated skin to come in contact with normal, untreated skin.
  • Podofilox may not be able to prevent previously healed warts from reappearing or stop new warts from growing.
  • Podofilox may cause local side effects, such as irritation, burning, or erosion.

The total dose of podofilox used on all warts should not exceed 0.5 g per day. The treated area should be limited to an area measuring 1.6 square inches (10 square centimeters), about the size of a dollar coin.

Condylox (Podofilox) gel
Apply twice daily for 3 consecutive days, then discontinue for 4 consecutive days. This one week treatment cycle may be repeated until there is no visible wart tissue or for a maximum of four cycles.

Gel should be applied to the warts with the applicator tip or finger. Application on the surrounding normal tissue should be minimized.

Warts that have not resolved after four cycles should be treated by alternative means. Safety and effectiveness of more than 4 treatment cycles has not been established, although in clinical trials it has been used for up to 6-8 cycles. There is no proof that more frequent application will increase efficacy.

Condylox (Podofilox) solution
Apply to the warts two times a day (every twelve hours) for three days in a row using applicator tip. Skip four days by not applying any medicine for four days in a row. If the wart can still be seen, this application cycle may be repeated each week for up to four weeks, until the wart is gone. No more than 0.5 milliliters of solution should be used each day of treatment.
